"The painting is not the result of thinking. It is the site where thinking happens. I begin with almost nothing and discover what the work is through the act of making it."

This painting was 20 different paintings before I destroyed it by painting over it and starting again. I think I actually started it in 2019 but the earliest photo I could find was the one from 2023. The painting finally decided what it wanted to be when I moved into the new studio in the summer of 2024.
I used to collect random flowers on my way to the studio and leave them in the space around me. The painting soaked up those colours and so has this outdoor bustling activity about it.
Painting is a reflection of the living process. It emerges from a gathering of images and emotions that reside in colour and form. When I am painting I feel like a passenger in a taxi being taken somewhere but I do not know where. You give yourself over to the journey and see where you end up.
